Notes to Caleb,

These are some assumptions about the new or novice users I have made that affected how I drafted this.

  1. I am guessing new/novice users may be uncomfortable switching pages... between edit and saved pages. Therefore I tried to minimize the number of times they have to do that.
  2. I tried to address a couple of different ways people learn… some by reading; some by example.
  3. There is repetition in the directions (IE: a blank line above and below) because I don't think people want to take the time to read all the instructions. I am assuming they will find the applicable topic and skip the rest.

Also, I don't like the way the final product is looking. It's not easy to read. I need to modify that some as well as proofread it. So don't be too picky yet about typos and/or errors. Email me when you've had a chance to look at it.

Before you begin:

Please notice that topics are in alphabetical order. Most topics have three sections:

  1. Numbered steps to complete the task.
  2. An example of how it will look while editing a page.
  3. The final appearance once the page is saved.

Bold

  1. Place a plus sign (+) immediately before the word or phrase to be bolded.
  2. Type the word or words.
  3. Type another plus sign (+) immediately after the word or phrase.
  • Example: \+phrase to be bolded+

Final appearance:

+phrase to be bolded+

Heading

  1. Place a blank line above the heading.
  2. Type an equals sign (=) immediately before the heading.
  3. Place a blank line below the heading.

Example: /(blank line)/

Final appearance:

Notes. There must be a blank line above and below the heading. The heading will automatically be bolded.

Italic

  1. Place a slash (/) immediately before the word or phrase to be italicized.
  2. Type the word or words.
  3. Type another slash (/) immediately after the word or phrase.

Lists(bulleted)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type an asterisk (*) at the beginning of each line in the list.
  3. Place a blank line below the list.

Example: /(blank line)/

  • first item in the bulleted list
  • second item in the bulleted list

Lists(multi-level)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type one asterisk (*) at the beginning of each line to be the first level in the list.
  3. Type two asterisks (**) at the beginning of each line to be the second level in the list.
  4. Place a blank line below the list.

Example: /(blank line)/

Final appearance:

  • Item at first level in the bulleted list
    • First item at the second level in the bulleted list
    • Second item at the second level in the bulleted list

Lists(numbered)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type a pound symbol (#) at the beginning of each line in the list.
  3. Place a blank line below the list.

Example: /(blank line)/

Final appearance:

  1. first item in the numbered list
  2. second item in the numbered list

Line (aka Seperator)

  1. Type four dashes (-) .

Paragraphs

  1. Place a blank line above the paragraph.
  2. Type the paragraph (it does not matter if it is less than one line or multiple lines).
  3. Place a blank line below the paragraph.

Paragraphs (indented quote blocks)

  1. Place a blank line above the paragraph.
  2. Type a greater-than symbol (>) at the beginning of the paragraph.
  3. Place a blank line below the paragraph.

Final appearance:
